What is Rally scoring?
- Teams will determine who will serve/receive or pick which side of the court they want to start on by one of the following methods: pick a 1 or 2, spin the paddle or coin toss (their choosing).
- Partners will decide before the first serve which side of the court they would like to start on (left or right). Whichever side you chose to start on, you will remain there the entirety of the game unless in the result of a time out or ends change.
- The player on the right-hand side of the court will serve crosscourt to begin the game.
- If the serving team wins the rally, they will win the point and continue to serve. However, after the initial serve by the player on the right, the partner on the left will then serve to try to gain a point (remember, partners do not switch sides when they gain a point/win a serve). The team will continue serving switching back and forth between partners until they lose a rally.
- Once the serving team loses a rally, the receiving team will then win a point and they will then begin to serve.
- *There are technically no second servers meaning the score will only be two numbers: the serving team score and the receiving team score. There is no serving number.
- Which player will serve on a team is determined by the score of the serving team. If the score is even, then the player on the right-hand side of the court will serve. If the score is odd, then the player on the left-hand side of the court will serve. So, for example, if the score is 0-0, and the receiving team wins the rally, then the receiving team will win a point and the right to serve. The score will now be 1-0, so the player on the left-side of the receiving team will serve next.
- If you are playing a game to 21, teams will change sides of the court when a team reaches 11 points. If you are playing games to 15, teams will change sides at the end of each game. If the sets are tied at 1-1 after the first two games, then a 3rgame will determine the winner. Teams will switch sides at 8 points in the final game to 15.
- The first team with 21 points wins (win by 2 points). However, points after the 20th point may only be scored on the serve. As for the 15-point games, the first to 15 points wins (win by 2 points), however points after the 14th point may only be scored on the serve.
